What the impostor sees

Imposter Game - Party Edition

Best for

Groups who want a second game in the same app: in Find the Liar, everyone answers a question and one player secretly got a different one.

Watch out

  • We found no way to add your own words or play with more than one impostor.

Imposter Who? - Word Game

Best for

Groups who need a less common language: its listing shows 48. No account needed.

Watch out

  • Its listing says 3 to 15 players, so it's not for big parties.
  • Its listing doesn't say it works offline.

Splash - Impostor Game

Best for

Hosts who want lots of party games in one app: the impostor game sits next to Truth or Dare, Charades, Werewolves and more.

Watch out

  • Its listing shows 10 languages.
  • Its listing doesn't say it works offline.

Fakeit: Imposter Game

Best for

Groups who want more than one impostor and may have no signal.

Watch out

  • Its listing doesn't say how many people can play.
  • We found no way to add your own words.

Imposter Game - Who's the Spy?

Best for

Big groups, up to 24 players, who like a twist: Mr. White gets no word at all and wins by guessing it.

Watch out

  • Its listing doesn't say it works offline.

Imposter Game - Faky

Best for

Groups of up to 12 who want hints for the impostor.

Watch out

  • Its listing doesn't say it works offline.
  • Its App Store listing shows English only; its website says the app has 14 languages.

Playing without an app

You don't need an app at all. Write the secret word on every slip of paper but one, write IMPOSTOR on that one, fold them and let everyone draw. The person who wrote the slips knows the word, so they sit that round out or play as an innocent.

Questions people ask

What's the best app for the imposter game?
It depends on your group. If you want to play on one phone, in your own language, with no signal and more than one impostor, Impostor does all of that. It's free to download on iPhone and Android.
Does Impostor work without internet?
Yes. Every word and every language is stored in the app, so it plays in airplane mode, on a camping trip or anywhere the signal drops.
How many people can play Impostor?
Three or more, on one phone. Type in everyone's names and pass it around: each player taps to see their word, and one of them finds out they're the impostor.
Can you play with more than one impostor?
Yes. Turn on multiple impostors and they have to find each other too, without giving themselves away.
What if the impostor has no idea what to say?
They can ask for a hint, one step at a time: a smaller category, then how the word is built, then a shortlist of possible words. The whole table sees each hint, so asking for one is a risk.
Can we use our own words?
Yes. Make a custom category with your own words, from inside jokes to this week's vocabulary list, and play it like any other.
