Budget apps that work without linking your bank account

Spentio tracks your spending, budgets, fixed costs and savings without ever asking for your bank login, and without an account. You log a buy in seconds or scan the receipt, and it works out what's left to spend. Here's how it compares with five other budget apps you can use without a bank link.

What you give up without a bank link, and what you get back

A bank link saves typing. Going without one takes a little more effort and keeps your login to yourself.

You give up

  • Purchases don't arrive on their own. You log each one, scan the receipt or import a file from your bank.
  • Your totals only know what you've logged, so a forgotten coffee won't show up.

You get back

  • Your bank login stays with you. No other company signs in to your account.
  • Cash counts the same as card payments, and it works with any bank.
  • There's no bank connection to renew, or to fix when it stops syncing.

Every app here works without a bank link. A tick for "Never connects to a bank" means we found no bank connection on its App Store listing, Google Play page or website. Any other cross means we didn't find that feature there on October 29, 2026.

Each app in short

Spentio

Our app

For anyone who wants the whole budget, with nothing linked and no sign-up.

Good

  • No bank login and no account: open the app and start.
  • Log a buy in seconds, scan the receipt, or import your bank's CSV, Excel, OFX or QIF file.
  • Budgets per category, fixed costs and subscriptions, savings goals, and one number for what's left to spend.
  • Share a profile with your partner, iPhone to iPhone or Android to Android.

Drawbacks

  • Nothing comes in from the bank by itself: you log, scan or import.
  • A shared profile works between two iPhones or two Android phones, not between an iPhone and an Android.

Goodbudget

For couples who like envelope budgeting.

Good

  • Virtual envelopes for each part of your budget, plus goal and annual envelopes.
  • Shared across phones and the web, on iPhone and Android.
  • Its Google Play page says it imports bank statements as OFX or QFX files.

Drawbacks

  • It offers bank sync to subscribers, and your budget is backed up to Goodbudget's website.
  • We found nothing about reading receipts.

EveryDollar

For people who plan every dollar before the month starts.

Good

  • A monthly budget where every dollar gets a job, with savings goals.
  • Bill due dates and a shared household budget.
  • On iPhone and Android.

Drawbacks

  • We found no way to import a bank file: transactions come from typing or from a bank connection.
  • We found nothing about reading receipts.

Koody

For people who'd rather upload bank statements than type.

Good

  • Says it doesn't need a connection to your bank and stores no bank credentials.
  • Imports bank and card statements as CSV or PDF and sorts them into categories.
  • Budgets that can follow your payday, plus bills and savings goals.

Drawbacks

  • We found no way to share a budget with a partner.
  • You can attach receipts, but we found nothing about reading them.

Monefy

For people who want to log a buy with nothing but the amount.

Good

  • One tap, the amount, done.
  • Its website says no bank login is needed.
  • Two people can sync through their own Google Drive or Dropbox.

Drawbacks

  • We found no way to import a bank file.
  • We found nothing about reading receipts.

Spendee

For people who start by hand and may link a bank later.

Good

  • Wallets for cash and accounts, budgets per category, and shared wallets.
  • Its AI receipt scanner fills in a purchase from a photo.
  • On iPhone, Android and the web.

Drawbacks

  • Its listing leads with connecting your bank. Without it, you add everything by hand.
  • We found no way to import a bank file.

How to budget without linking your bank

A month in Spentio, step by step. No bank login at any point.

  1. Day one

    Set up your plan

Add your income, your fixed costs and what you want to save. Spentio works out what you have to spend each month.

  2. At the till

    Log the buy

Type what you bought and the price, like "milk 2.49". Spentio guesses the category.

  3. With a receipt

    Scan it

Hold the + and take a photo. Every line lands in its own category.

  4. Once a month

    Import your bank's file

Download a CSV, Excel, OFX or QIF file from your online banking and import it. Spentio skips what's already there, so you catch what you forgot.

  5. Any day

    See what's left

Home shows what you've spent today, this week or this month, and what's left.

Questions people ask

Can I use Spentio without linking my bank account?
Yes. Spentio never asks for your bank login. You log buys yourself, scan receipts or import a file you download from your bank.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no Spentio account and no sign-up. On iPhone your data syncs through your own iCloud; on Android, a shared profile goes through your own Google Drive.
Can Spentio read my bank statement?
Yes, as a file. Download a CSV, Excel, OFX or QIF file from your online banking and import it. Spentio skips anything you've already logged.
Does it work with cash?
Yes. You log cash like anything else: what you bought and the price.
Is Spentio on Android?
Yes, on iPhone and Android. A shared profile works between two iPhones or two Android phones, not across the two.
